In an article published today on Inc.com called What You Need to Know About Google’s Penguin Update it talks about yet another change to Google’s search algorithm.
This particular change deals more with Site-Wide Links and too many links from Low Quality Websites. To learn more just click the link about and read the article.
The reason I’m bringing this up is because so many companies have no idea what goes into SEO. They have no idea what it takes to start and what it takes to keep moving forward. They have no idea what it’s like to do the Google dance. Google makes a change, we have to change. They make another we have to make another. It’s a constant battle to keep up with them so they don’t step on our toes. So you have to keep up with what’s going on, otherwise you will see some dramatic shifts in your rankings.
But, that could be good and bad. Let’s say you weren’t involved in any kind of heavy linking practices, but you also couldn’t break the top 3 pages for your key phrases. Well now, you could very well increase rankings without doing anything. You might just have a handful of reputable links but since you don’t have low quality ones, you just might move up in the rankings with little to no effort. This is probably an unlikely scenario but you never know.
The morale of the story is this, SEO is not a cookie cutter service. It’s not something you can set and forget. You have to constantly keep up with how Google’s evolving so you can evolve too.
